Pitangão Amarelo da Unicamp - Eugenia spp
This plant is native to the understory of Semideciduous Seasonal Forest, Ombrophilous Forest and Mixed Ombrophilous Forest (Atlantic forest near the coast); being present in the states of São Paulo, Paraná, Rio Grande do Sul, and Santa Catarina, Brazil. The fruits are very tasty to be consumed in natura, because its flavor resembles the taste of Acerola, but sweeter and more pleasant. The fruit has an excellent amount of pulp and this pulp can be used in the form of juices, ice creams and jellies. The tree is small and can be grown as an ornamental or to attract bees because it gives an excellent amount of flowers or even to attract birds and wild animals. You will recieve a plant similar to the size of the ones photographed. This plant IS NOT to get confused with the Eugenia Burkartiana that I have sold in auctions in the past. The one I sold before has a dark red skin and red flesh. This is a totally different tree. I purchased this as Eugenia spp originally.
