Sideroxylon Obtusifolium

$10.00

Sideroxylon obtusifolium is a resilient, fruit-bearing tree native to coastal Brazil. Reaching heights of 7 to 18 meters, this species thrives in full sun and is well-adapted to harsh, dry conditions. The specimen featured here was collected just 200 meters from the ocean, growing in sandy soil along the coast of Rio de Janeiro, in a unique vegetation type that appears extremely drought- and heat-tolerant.

The tree produces small black to purple fruits, about 15mm in diameter, which are incredibly sweet and succulent. The pulp is juicy and sugary, making the fruit a favorite snack among locals who often eat it straight from the tree. The skin is completely edible and has no negative effect on the flavor. While the fruit contains a bit of latex, it’s a minor detail—the taste makes it absolutely worth it.

Sideroxylon obtusifolium is a fantastic choice for growers in coastal or arid tropical regions looking to add a delicious, drought-resistant fruit tree to their landscape. Its adaptability and fruit quality make it a hidden gem among tropical edibles.

Regarding the watermark - The Seeds District is a passion project created in collaboration with Bellamy Trees and the Seeds Hunter. Our mission is to preserve rare fruit species and share them with passionate growers around the world. By getting these unique plants into the hands—and yards—of dedicated enthusiasts, we’re helping ensure their survival for generations to come.
