Seeds were imported from Brazil. This is a rare species, native to the understory of the Atlantic forest in the states of Minas Gerais, Espirito Santo and Bahia, Brazil. The fruits can be consumed out of hand, and are also used to make juices and ice cream. The fruits are dark red to purple oval fruit, 5 cm long, sweet acid red pulp, with 5 to 7 seeds of 0.5 cm. The pulp is red-purple and very juicy. This is a very ornamental Guava. It is a small to medium-sized tree, 3 meters tall. Compound pinnate leaves, 4 to 6 leaflets of 5 cm, smooth.
