Matisia Paraensis

$25.00
sold out

Seeds were imported from Brazil. Fruit measuring more than 20 cm in length, with a skin with the texture of cardboard (cartaceous) and thin, easily broken and detachable from the pulp. This is intensely yellow-orange, with some fibers (like mango). The fruit has the same culinary uses as genipap (Genipa americana), with emphasis on the manufacture of fine liqueurs. The tree is very ornamental, with an oval and dense crown, formed by large (ca. 20 cm x 10 cm) oval leaves, with printed veins. It is best to be planted in Tropical climates, in well-drained but moisture-retaining soils, rich in organic matter. It can be grown in full sun, but must be protected from direct sun in the juvenile phase. It is found growing naturally in the State of Pará, from the Breves Islands to Gurupá. Seeds are shipped in humid vermiculite.
