Garcinia bancana Miq. is a mid-canopy tropical tree named after Bangka Island, located between Sumatra and Borneo, where it was originally collected. It can reach up to 37 meters in height with a trunk diameter of up to 57 cm. The tree produces yellow latex and has simple, opposite leaves with subtle secondary venation. Its small greenish-white flowers grow in clusters in the leaf axils, and it bears fleshy, round berries approximately 26 mm in diameter. These fruits ripen from green to yellow, pink, or purple and contain seeds surrounded by a white aril.

The species grows in undisturbed swamp, keranga, mixed dipterocarp, and sub-montane forests up to 1000 meters elevation, typically on sandy alluvial soils. It is also found as a remnant tree in secondary forests. The wood is used locally, and its natural distribution includes Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, and Borneo, including Sarawak, Brunei, Sabah, and parts of Kalimantan.
