Eugenia Candolleana

$2.00

Eugenia candolleana is a small tree or shrub native to the Atlantic Forest region of Brazil. It typically grows between 3 to 6 meters tall and has a rounded to slightly conical canopy. The bark is reddish-brown and peels in thin layers, revealing a smooth trunk underneath. Young leaves emerge rusty-brown and mature into glossy dark green, with a leathery texture and a curved apex.

The tree produces clusters of small flowers during the Brazilian summer (November to January), with fruit ripening between February and March. The fruits are berries about 20 mm wide and 25 mm long, with a thin purple-black skin and firm, moist white pulp surrounding usually one seed. The flavor is moderately sweet, somewhat similar to jabuticaba but milder. This species is appreciated for its ornamental value and edible fruit, which can be eaten fresh or used in jams and liqueurs.

Seeds are from a cultivated tree and are shipped in packs of one, in humid vermiculite.
