Diospyros Inconstans - Martelinho

$5.00

Diospyros inconstans, commonly known as Martelinho, is a small tree native to much of South America, reaching as far south as Uruguay and northern Argentina. It typically grows between 6 to 9 meters tall, with a somewhat crooked trunk (bole) measuring 20 to 40 cm in diameter. In the wild, it is usually found in moist, rocky soils near streams—mostly in the middle of forests, but occasionally along the edges—especially in areas at higher elevations.

The tree produces tiny white flowers followed by small, glossy purple fruits. The fruits are edible and sweet, suitable for eating fresh or for use in homemade liqueurs. In cultivation, Diospyros inconstans adapts well to both tropical and warm temperate climates. While it grows naturally in forested shade, it prefers a sunny position when planted in open environments.

Seeds are shipped in packs of one, in humid vermiculite.
