Amorphophallus raungensis "Green"

$12.00

Amorphophallus raungensis (Green) is a newly discovered and yet-to-be formally published species of Amorphophallus, originating from the Lumajang region in eastern Java, Indonesia. Although it does not currently have an official scientific name, it is expected to be described as Amorphophallus raungensis in future botanical literature. The discovery of this species is particularly significant given the extensive deforestation and habitat loss across Java, which has placed many native species at risk. Fortunately, this species was found in a relatively remote and isolated area, which has helped shield it from immediate threats and allowed it to remain undisturbed in its natural habitat.

This particular form features a green, spotted petiole and can reach a height of about 1.5 meters. The inflorescence is striking, composed of a dark purple spathe surrounding a slightly lighter spadix. Botanists in the region have noted that its floral structure resembles that of Amorphophallus borneensis, while its fruit shares similarities with Amorphophallus spectabilis, a species from western Java. The seeds offered come from cultivated stock, ensuring that wild populations remain protected and undisturbed.

When grown as a houseplant, Amorphophallus raungensis requires a well-draining soil rich in organic material. Like many Amorphophallus species, it enters a dormancy period once a year during which the foliage dies back completely. During this time, it's important to keep the soil just slightly moist to prevent the underground tuber from drying out. The plant will naturally reemerge from dormancy, at which point watering can be increased slightly. It thrives in bright, indirect light and should be kept out of direct sunlight to avoid leaf scorch.

Seeds are sold as a single seed. Will be shipped in humid vermiculite.
