Eugenia sp Enrugada
Eugenia sp. "Enrugada" is a newly observed and remarkable species within a group of wrinkled orange Eugenias native to southeastern Brazil. This species produces orange, deeply wrinkled fruits that are significantly larger than those of the commonly known Eugenia laranja rugosa. Both the fruit and the seeds are notably bigger—the seeds alone are up to four times the size of the typical laranja rugosa.
The tree itself is impressively large, with the specimen observed reaching over 20 feet in height. It has been found in the Brazilian states of Espírito Santo, Minas Gerais, and possibly in the extreme south of Bahia. It belongs to a unique trio of related and regionally restricted species, which includes:
Eugenia sp. "Uvaia lã de Carneiro"
Eugenia sp. "Amarela Gigante"
Eugenia sp. "Enrugada"
The plant being offered here is Eugenia sp. "Enrugada", a good-sized individual of this extremely rare species. In the past, it has been sold under names such as Eugenia aff. laranja rugosa and Eugenia sp. "Amarela Rugosa de divisa Bahia x Espírito Santo". However, the original discoverer refers to it as Eugenia sp. "Enrugada", and until it is formally classified by science, this is the name under which it will be shared.
Seeds are sold individually and shipped in moist vermiculite to ensure optimal freshness and viability.
