Seeds were imported from Brazil. This is a semi-deciduous tree with the bark peeling naturally from the bole[416 ]. It grows 4 - 9 meters tall with a short bole about 20 - 30cm in diameter. It is a rare plant in the wild, it is often cultivated for its edible fruit in domestic orchards within its native range. The plants delicate crown and leaves give it an ornamental characteristic. It is a small tree known only from two sites in Brazil. The plant is classified as 'Vulnerable' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2011). The fruits are consumed raw, in jellies, sherbets and made into juices. It has a succulent pulp with a pleasantly acidic, astringent flavor. The fruits are a dark green even when fully ripe. The fruits are about 7cm in diameter, they form into a shape that like a flying saucer.
