Seeds were imported from Brazil and are staring to germinate. This is a delicious cherry-shaped fruit (c. 2.5 cm in diameter), with a smooth, very thin and edible black skin, enclosing a pinkish pulp that gradually turns red towards the seed, from which it is easily detached. The fruits are very juicy and with have a perfect sweet-acid balance, without any astringency or unpleasant aftertaste. It has a very high anthocyanin content, making it one of the tastiest eugenics in the world. The plant is a shrub or tree with a reddish trunk, which reaches 2-3 m in growing conditions. The fruits are very tasty in their natural state and can be used to make juices, ice cream, drinks and jellies. It also has good ornamental potential due to the reddish color of the trunk. Plant are grown in full sun, in well-drained soil. Very productive and precocious, it bears fruit from just 1 m in height. Suitable for growing in pots. It is endemic to the Atlantic Forest, it occurs in rocky outcrop vegetation, forest and restinga in the states of Rio de Janeiro, Espírito Santo and Bahia. Seeds will be shipped in humid vermiculite.
