The tree has a beautiful red trunk as photographed about. An online description of the tree reads - Araca piranga is a semi-deciduous tree with an open, pyramidal crown; it can grow 8 - 14 metres tall. The cylindrical bole can be 25 - 40cm in diameter. The tree is sometimes harvested from the wild for its edible fruit, though this is not widely appreciated. It is also sometimes grown as an ornamental, being valued especially for its stunning, red trunk. Fruit - raw or in jellies, A thick, fleshy pulp with a slightly sweet, somewhat astringent flavor. The fruit is around 5cm in diameter, containing a single large seed. Seed - best sown as soon as it is ripe in a partially shaded position in individual containers.
